Who?

The first section that we get to read of the Journal is about a very intelligent individual. He tells us that after finishing college with over 5 Ph.D.'s, he decided to use his money to make a small cabin in the city of Gravity Falls, Oregon. From there, we get told that he lives here to document the bizarre creatures he encounters on a daily basis. These include gnomes, monsters, aliens, and pretty much anything else you can think of. From there is where the story kicks in.

Story

After his introduction, the author starts to tell us about some of his more recent discoveries. Theses include Gnomes, The Undead, Leapracorns, and other wonky characters. However, he then tells us about something he calls 'His Muse". However, or whatever this creature is, it appears to him whenever he hits a dead end. This is when he brings up his main goal. Something that he walks towards every day. That thing is discovering the true 'Theory of Weirdness'. It asks the question of why are there such weird and peculiar animals living in Gravity Falls. We then get another 30 pages of outlandish and wacky characters, including an entire guide to ghosts, before we get the message that the author's Muse has spoken in his dreams. It suggested that maybe instead of looking for why they're here, he should investigate where they came from. The Muse suggested that what the author should do is create a portal, or in other words, a gateway between the normal world and a weirdness dimension. Now intrigued, the author wakes up and dials up his old friend from university, Fiddleford McGucket. Together, the two friends work on the gateway, and in the end, manage to finish. It was the time for testing.

But something went wrong.

During one of the tests, Fiddleford's head was momentarily sucked into the portal. Upon being pulled out, the man started to speak jibberish, until he stopped and looked at the author with what appeared to be terror in his eyes. He warned the author about the portal, and how he should shut it down for good. Ignoring the warning, the author continued to work on the portal, but had but had a vision. His Muse was seen in the portal, and whenever the author fell asleep, he would have strange conversations with his Muse. It was worrying but became scary when the author made an entire page scribbled with black ink, and phrases like: 'My Muse Lied", and etc. He then wrote a page on the being known as Bill Cypher. This creature lives in a different dimension, and using trickery made the author create a gateway out of his world. Realizing the terrible mistake he made, the author disabled the portal and went insane thinking that Bill was still stalking him, hoping to possess the author and re-enable the gateway. In a last ditch effort, our protagonist hid the journals to make sure Bill won't find out how the portal worked.

What Happened?

After telling us where in Gravity Falls he hid the other two Journals, the author signs off with a message of 'TRUST NO ONE'. What happened afterward is yet to be discovered. Discovered by a boy who is hoping for a great and adventurous summer break. The boy, who ultimately learns the secrets of Gravity Falls.
